Beach restoration & fog banks 5/25/12
I went for a walk by the beach after dinner today and wasn't surprised to see a lot of activity! Of course it is the Friday of Memorial day weekend but also the beaches are finally be fixed up from last year's impact of Hurricane Irene. The sidewalks that were broken up by long island sound's waves have been replaced and the beach is being replenished with sand, even the grass and flowers lost to the salt and sand if storm surge have been replanted! As I continued to walk I even came across a sign from the federal government about the beach restoration (photo below) which was pretty cool.

One Year Later Joplin Tornado
On May 22, 2011 Joplin, Missouri was blasted by an EF-5 Tornado that leveled parts of the town and killed many people from toddlers to high school graduates, veterans and the elderly. To mark the one year anniversary President Obama is speaking at Joplin's High School Graduation tonight, the night before the one year anniversary. The tornadoes that struck Joplin as well as Tuscaloosa were truly monsters and took more lives then ever thought possible in this day an age. I wrote a hub about the tornadoes of 2011 (link below) which include some very emotional videos off of YouTube which really brings the human element into the storm.

Deadly Tornado Outbreak: 1 year Later
A year ago lives we're scattered with the winds of a violent Tornado outbreak in the southern states, Alabama being hit the hardest. A year later and the destruction and videos are still shocking, what's even more shocking is the number of people who lost their lives that day. The storm didn't discriminate against any age, killing those from infants to college students to the elderly. Anniversary's although painful, remind us of the importance of living life in the present and the true gift that life is to everyone!

BrushFire Milford, CT 4/9/12
Below are photos I took of the smoke from a large brush fire in Milford, CT on the evening of 4/9/12 at Anchor Beach. Ironically I was at the beach in an attempt to catch some glimpses of smoke from a huge brush fire across Long Island Sound in Long Island NY but instead turned around to find smoke billowing out of my own town!!! The radar photo is a screen capture from weatherbug that shows where the smoke actually reflected on the radar like rain! The last few months have been very dry and warm in the northeast with strong winds today it was only a matter of time a fire would break out!
