With the incredibly warm weather of March every thing blossomed early here in CT, some plants have flowered up to a month in advance! The photos below are recent pics I took on my phone of a pear tree blossomed under the warm sun of April and the other is of maples and pear trees under an early rising moon!

Here in southern CT we're getting some unusually early thunderstorms, many places have even seen hail! No jail here but an interesting cloud formation!

Surprised snow 2/24/12

I woke up this morning to a surprise snow event!  About 2 inches of very heavy and very wet snow fell over night in southern CT.  This might seem strange that I'm surprise by a light snowfall in February but yesterday afternoon was close to 60 degrees! and this winter has not really been a new England winter.  The fact that the snow stuck to ground that's been pretty warm is impressive and means that we must have gotten a period of intense precipitation.  Although thinking back to last night the local weathermen were all predicting rain along the shore, i should have known better when i went to bed and noticed the dew point was down near 25 and the temp was already down to 35 before the precip even arrived.  Once the rain moved in, the air was so dry that temps had to slowly drop to the freezing mark as dew points rose to get enough humidity in the air for snow! (according to weatherbug it got down to 30 degrees last night).  On top of it all the chance of thunderstorms this afternoon isn't out of the question, it would be interesting to see 60 degrees, 2 inches of snow and then thunderstorms all in about 36 hours!

What boring weather!

After what seemed to be an endless stream of crazy and extreme weather last year (2011), 2012 is very tamed!  The only extreme weather this year as the been the extreme lack of anything spectacular, of course unless you call the warm weather extreme.  So far this winter the only snow storm experienced here in southern Connecticut was back on January 21, 2011, where we were lucky enough to get stuck under a small band of snow!  I ended up with 8 inches in my front yard, but that's a far cry from the close to 50 inches we received in all of January 2011!  I guess we got all the snow for two years in 2011!  As the buds begin to grow bigger on the trees everyday and the sun getting stronger each day, the hopes and chances of a big winter storm are slowly dwindling .  Of course there is always still a chance of a huge storm, the Superstorm of 1993 was in March and so was the infamous blizzard of 1888!  Although the chance always sticks to the back of my mind, I'm almost ready for spring!  I just hope we don't end up with a cooler than normal spring, cool springs are horrible in New England and unfortunately happen often, especially when living near the water.  Well the only way to find out is to wait it out.  I would love to see a huge storm on the caliber of 1888, anything less and I would rather have it be spring!
