The Great Blizzard of 2013 One Year Later

Radar during the storm when an intense snow band dropped up to 3 inches an hours of snow, including some hail and thunder snow! 

Total snowfall from the blizzard mapped by NWS Boston, south central CT (where I live) was the bullseye (dark purple) with over 30 inches of snow!

Blizzard 2013!! Nemo hit hard in Milford, CT

Even though Boston was suppose to be hit the hardest in last week's blizzard, south central CT was surprised to become the bullseye of the storm!  An official report of 38 inches of snow in my hometown of Milford, CT! and even more just north of us in Hamden, CT of 40 inches (We even made ABC News and we're at the top of the list!)!  Although the snow on the ground matches that of the snowy January of 2011, it didn't come in one night like this blizzard! Snowed In and Loving it: Blizzard of 2013 

It's day 3 and we have yet to see a plow come up our street!!  So yesterday (Sunday) afternoon the neighbors banned together to make a path in the street.  They used snow blowers and shovels to make their way to the main road off the development!  I took some photos of this in between helping and also wrote an article on WxEdge!

I still can't believe the amount of snow we got!  It's being compared to the great Blizzards of 1978 and 1888!!  Storms that I read about throughout my childhood, never really expecting to experience it!  PS there's a possible snow storm for Wednesday night and Saturday night!  This would be insane because roads won't even be plowed till Wednesday and then covered again that night!  Plus kids have been out of school since last Friday and may not go back till this Friday!! Goodbye winter and spring break! 

Icy Long Island Sound 1/25/13

After a week of below freezing temps here along the CT shoreline, I braved the cold on Friday morning to venture down the beach and take some photos.  The reason why I wanted to get down to the beach was because the water was getting so cold, ice was forming in spots.  Now as most of you probably know, it's very hard for salt water to freeze, and Long Island Sound is salt water.  Although not too unusual it was fun to see the ice along the shoreline.  I took tons of pictures and even made a slideshow for the local weather site WxEdge.com, which I'm a contributor to.  The only part that wasn't fun was the near frostbite i received on my fingers!! It took about 20 mins to get my hands back to normal after only being outside for 15-20 mins at the most!

More Flooding Pictures from 9/28/12 Southern Connecticut

Below are two links to Connecticut's local news weather website (which I am a contributor).  These two links show the impressive flash flooding seen in my area of Connecticut on Friday September 28, 2012 due to a low pressure system moving through with a warm front.  The torrential rains lasted for hours, pouring at a rate of over 1.5 inches an hour at some points (probably higher).  We ended up with 3-4 inches of rain within 4 hours and the ground could just not handle it!  Even the Milford Mall basement flooded with water coming up through drains! 


This Link has some crazy video of the water bubbling up through drains on the basement floor of the mall!  This actually happened last August 2011, two weeks before Tropical Storm Irene hit!
