It was a Warm, Green Christmas in 2014!

There was no white christmas this year in the Tri-State region. In fact it was one of the warmest Christmas eves and Christmas days in decades! It was also one of the wettest as well! The graphic below was released by the New York City National Weather Service office. It shows the records, as well as official temps and rainfall for the area's weather station. Bridgeport, CT is the closest station to my hometown. However, check out how warm it got at LaGuardia airport in New York! It got up to 63 degrees on Christmas day, that beat the record by 6 degrees from 24 years ago in 1990! 

It was also one wet, Christmas Eve with it being the wettest on record at Islip, NY and Kennedy, NY. 

Connecticut Flooding! June 2013

I haven't updated this blog in a while (mostly because I was working on my Master's thesis!) and the weather has been pretty quite.  Most of April was extremely dry and below average temperature wise.  In fact Connecticut went into a moderate drought because of the long stretch of dry weather in April.  Now the first week in June and all we've had is rain, rain and more rain!  In fact many areas have already seen 4-6 inches of rain this week and it's not even over yet!  Thursday, June 13 into Friday, June 14th will feature more heavy rain possibly up to 5 more inches of rain!  The NWS (National Weather Service) is predicting 4.25 inches of rain for New Haven, CT.  If this happens many areas in CT will have gotten 10-12 inches of rain in one week!  Thats a foot of rain in one week! Almost unheard of here in CT unless a tropical system goes through, which Tropical Storm Andrea (the remnants) did go through last Friday! Flat yards flooding! 9/28/12

Friday torrential rain: Shed Flooding!

As a low pressure system and warm front move through we have been getting torrential rain for hours! Over 3 hours now and everything is starting to flood!

This shed in my grandmothers back yard hasn't flooded in years and now it has!
